Rajarshee Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Government Medical College, Kolhapur is a tertiary care Medical College, established in the year 2000 in Kolhapur. It is attached to the historical Chhatrapati Pramilaraje General Hospital, popularly called as Thorla Davakhana in 1884. The college is affiliated to Maharashtara University of Health Sciences, Nasik. It is recognized by NMC (Former MCI) New Delhi for providing Medical Education for 150 MBBS intake capacity.
Since 2004, Primary DNB as well as post diploma DNB courses are being provided by this institute. Since 2021, the medical college is providing MD & MS Post Graduate courses in all Medical & Surgical Specialties. The first MD / MS batch of 33 Post Graduate students passed out in 2024 & another 166 PG students are continuing their Post Graduation at present.
In addition, DMLT, BSc. PMT, CCMP, Ph.D & Nursing courses are also being provided by the institute. From the year 2023 even Super-speciality Courses (DM Cardiology & MCh Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery) are also provided. Recently college has also been approved for running BSc. Nursing Course for 100 intake capacity.
Around 2000 students have successfully passed their MBBS from this institute & are working in prime institutes in India & abroad. Around 750 students are persuing their MBBS course & 150 students are undergoing their internship at present.
The Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Hospital is the one of the largest government institutions in Western Maharashtra catering to the Health Care needs of people from neighboring districts VIZ Sangli, Satara, Konkan area including Sindhudurga & Ratnagiri of Maharashtra and also neighboring Belagavi District of Karnataka.
CPR Hospital is a 850 Bedded Multi Specialty Hospital with over 30 wards and 15 Operation Theaters. It has all latest infrastructure & Modern facilities including CT Scan & MRI.
Daily average OPD is around 1300 to 1500 & IPD is around 150 to 200. Around 30 to 50 Major Surgeries & 75 to 100 Minor Surgeries are performed daily. A total of 20 to 30 deliveries & 3 to 5 Caesarian Sections take place every day.
