Department of Pathology has 5 major subsections, including Clinical pathology ( Haematology & clinical Pathology) , Cytopathology , Surgical Pathology , Autopsy Pathology & District Blood Bank.
The department is situated in two locations namely hospital & college complex. It runs daily emergency and out patients Clinical laboratory services and looks after central clinical laboratory of the hospital , full phased district blood bank with Apheresis facility and state reference laboratory. The department caters to clinical pathology, surgical pathology & autopsy investigative needs of hospital and provides blood and blood components. It undertakes education of undergraduate MBBS & BPMT students and runs post graduate courses like DMLT and also trains Medical Officers and Technicians from State Health Services. The Department Participates in research. It also participates and arranges various health camps, awareness programs and educational programs.
Mission of the department is to provide all necessary and up to date laboratory investigate support of clinical, surgical, cytopathological investigations. These helps clinician to rightly diagnose and manage the patients attending the hospital and various community programs, there by acting as a useful team member of clinical team. The department undertakes teaching of undergraduate students of II nd MBBS course for the subject of Pathology so as to make them understand causes, mechanism, morphological changes and clinical pathological co-relation. It also trains them to carry out basic haematological and clinical investigations and their interpretation. Thus the department participates in the process of making the student understand clinical medicine so that they can become first line basic doctors who can also effectively at as an active member of health care team. Department trains post graduate students of DMLT , who can act as effective paramedical force.
Department undertakes training of Medical Officers and Technician from state health services with special reference to laboratory & blood bank techniques that are not available in their own set up , so that they can establish basic laboratory and blood bank facilities at state health centers.
